About the Backpackers Club

Founded in 1972, the Backpackers Club is a UK based club for people who enjoy lightweight camping. Its aim is to promote and encourage backpacking for the benefit of members. The Club tries to maintain a high standard of activity while remaining friendly and informal.

Backpacking is an enjoyable way of life; the art of being self contained, carrying everything that you need to manage a camping trip for periods ranging from a few days to a full expedition.

Over the years the Backpackers Club has earned an enviable reputation for representing its members and demonstrating a highly responsible approach to backpacking. Whether you are a walker, cyclist, canoeist or a cross-country skier the Club support your interest. It provides a comprehensive information service based on the experience of active Club members. Perhaps the best membership benefit of all is the long term friendships with other people who share your interest in backpacking.

Pictures from Club Weekend Meets

The following pages include a few pictures from the Club Photograph Library of weekend meets in 1999. Hopefully it will give a feeling for the Club activities. Thanks go to Tony Wilson for providing the pictures.

Also, the local area Backpackers Club web sites for Northumberland and Kent have reports and pictures for some of the weekend meets organised by their areas. The Club Scottish Week will give an idea of the what the Club's longer events are like.
